EU Projects

As part of its multifaceted activities, the Byzantine and Christian Museum is always keen to participate in collaborative research programmes with a view to raising the visibility of its collections and making full use of its specialist staff’s know-how in applying new technologies to the management, conservation, documentation and promotion of cultural heritage artefacts. The Museum’s efforts thus stem from its desire to boost its social role by building channels of communication with contemporary society.

  • Connecting Early Medieval European Collections CEMEC

    29.01.2020

    The Byzantine and Christian Museum participated as partner in the EU-funded project within the Creative Europe Framework, entitled as “Connecting Early Medieval European Collections (CEMEC)”, aiming to create a collaborative network and an effective management model of travelling museum exhibitions. The CEMEC consortium involved seven European Museums, Universities and technical partners (https://www.cemec-eu.net/partners.php). The Allard Pierson Museum in association with the University of Amsterdam were the project´s coordinators.

  • At the Museum with the Roma

    07.08.2014

    The action "At the Museum with the Roma" was coordinated and implemented by the Byzantine and Christian Museum, in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre, in 2013-14. The aim was to promote the Roma populations’ social access to cultural heritage, to stimulate their historical self-awareness, to introduce society with certain characteristics of the Greek Roma community that overturn stereotypical perceptions.

    The Byzantine and Christian Museum participates in the project ROMA ROUTES (2010-2012), which is funded with support from the CULTURE 2007-2013 Programme, Co-operation Measures (Strand 1.2.1), of the European Commission.

  • Study of the decay

    The “Study of the decay in the painted layers of post-Byzantine icons with the parallel application of chromatographic and micro-chemical techniques: identifying the mixing base and the by-products of its break-down” project took place in the context of the Academic and Technological Collaboration Programme 2005-2007 between Italy and Greece, which was in turn part of the COMPETITIVENESS Operational Programme.
