EUROPEAN DAY OF CONSERVATION-RESTORATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE
On Sunday, October 20, the European Day of Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage is celebrated with a series of events and activities across European countries. The aim is to introduce the public to the conservation of antiquities and works of art and to highlight its significant contribution to the safeguarding of cultural heritage.
The events will take place from October 14 to 20, with the main celebration on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
The Byzantine and Christian Museum is participating in the European Day of Conservation-Restoration 2024 with a variety of activities organized by the museum¢s conservators.
The activities are addressed to adults and will be presented to groups of 8–12 participants.

The Conservation of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books at the Byzantine and Christian Museum
Guided tour of the conservation laboratory for manuscripts, printed material, and paper-based works.

“Stories of Glass”
Inspired by the glass exhibits of the Byzantine and Christian Museum, this presentation–workshop explores the nature of glass, its manufacturing technology, and its deterioration.

The Conservation of Paintings at the Byzantine and Christian Museum
Guided tour of the museum¢s painting conservation laboratory.

Methods of Conservation and Display of Detached Wall Paintings at the Byzantine and Christian Museum
Guided tour of the permanent exhibition, presenting cases of conserved wall painting fragments on display.

Sunday, October 20
Decorative Paper Making (Marbled Paper)
Workshop on the creation of decorative marbled papers using oil paints. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own decorative papers.
