    On Tuesday the 29th of January at 7:30 p.m. at the Byzantine and Christian Museum the photographer artist Miro Ito will deliver a lecture on «Art as Media is a Message for Universality». Miro Ito presents Japanese cultural treasures in their photographic reproduction and their East West cultural links as examples for the unity and solidarity of mankind under the motto “The medium is a message”.   • Exhibition Opening: “Byzantium and the Others in the First Millennium: An Empire of stability in a turbulent era”

    The Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports in joint collaboration with the Byzantine and Christian Museum, present the temporary exhibition “Byzantium and the Others in the First Millennium: An Empire of stability in a turbulent era”. The duration of the exhibition is from May 18th till October 10th 2018. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Ms. Lydia Koniordou, on May 17th at 19:30. Through six thematic sections: “Transition”, “Worship”, “Intellectual Life”, “Warfare in the Western and Eastern Roman Empire” ,“Secular Life” and “Trade”, the exhibition highlights the role of the Byzantine Empire as a stability pole during the turbulent era of 300 – 1000 A.D, both in the European continent and in the broader area of the Mediterranean Sea and the East. The exhibition is organized within the framework of the EU project “CEMEC - Connecting Early Medieval European Collections”, co-funded by the Creative Europe Framework, the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Byzantine and Christian Museum.

    A Byzantine New Testament Manuscript of significant archaeological and artistic value, belonging to the Dionysiou Monastery, Mt Athos, is currently in display at the Byzantine & Christian Museum, after having returned from the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, CA, where it had been kept for decades.

  • "Passages of Substance" by Kalliopi Lemos

    The Byzantine & Christian Museum, in cooperation with the Royal Danish Embassy in Greece, exhibits the work "Passages of Substance" by Kalliopi Lemos from 13 May to 8 September. This cooperation is part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Danish philosopher and religious thinker Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855).

    Athens International Airport, in the framework of its cooperation with the Byzantine & Christian Museum, hosts at its premises a photo exhibition of the Museum’s Permanent Exhibition from January 10th until April 30th, 2012. The Byzantine Museum completed one year ago its new Permanent Exhibition of the Museum’s Collections, which was set up on the basis of a new museological concept, compatible with the requirements of contemporary museology.
