Post-Byzantine Collections. “From Byzantium to the Modern Era”

On July 2004 the New Permanent Exhibition of the Byzantine & Christian Museum’s Byzantine Collections, which covers the period from 4th to 15th c., opened to the public. Today, the completed Permanent Exhibition of the Post-Byzantine Collections becomes accessible to the public too. Under the general title “From Byzantium to the Modern Era” the exhibition presents the period from the Fall of Constantinople (1453) up to the 20th c. In an 1,4002 exhibition area, 1,000 archaeological objects are being displayed ¯most of them for the first time! The exhibits are linked with the social, cultural and political context of the historical period from which they originate. It is the first time that a Museum attempts to present such a complex synthesis of this specific historical period.
