Event alongside the photographic exhibition “Road of Light and Hope –Voyage of Hellenism to Japan”

Tuesday 29th of January | 07:30 p.m.

On Tuesday the 29th of January at 7:30 p.m. at the Byzantine and Christian Museum the photographer artist Miro Ito will deliver a lecture on «Art as Media is a Message for Universality». Miro Ito presents Japanese cultural treasures in their photographic reproduction and their East West cultural links as examples for the unity and solidarity of mankind under the motto “The medium is a message”.

The lecture will be supported by a theatrical performance with masks Gigaku by the dancer Shunso, former soloist dancer of the National Ballet of Cuba and of the Czech Republic. The photographs of Gigaku theatrical masks from the Buddhist temple of Todaiji in Nara, Japan, are displayed in the current exhibition. These masks are thought to have originated from the ancient comic Greek theatre and bear witness to the cultural interactions and influences brought into contacts along the ancient trading route of the Silk Road connecting China and Greece.

The event will be running alongside the photographic exhibition “Road of Light and Hope –Voyage of Hellenism to Japan” hosted at the Byzantine and Christian Museum.

The lecture of Miro Ito will be delivered in English.
